Why Korean Blinds Are Perfect for the Filipino Sala: Light Control + Style – Manila Project
One of the common values among Filipinos is filial piety which emphasizes giving utmost respect, obedience, and care for parents, elders, and family members. As such, we practice pagmamano, strict obedience, and engage in conversations or kamustahan. In busy areas like Manila, connecting with family can be as simple as talking to them within the comfort of our own homes, specifically in living rooms or sala. Like any other areas in our houses, this space for bonding must be well-maintained and comfortable. What better way to make your sala the coziest it can be than to use appropriate window treatments like blinds?
For this blog, we’ll venture into how well Korean blinds blend with the Filipino living room as installed for our Manila client.
Korean blinds are called many names because of their appearance alone. They’re also pertained to as Losa blinds, combi blinds, and zebra blinds for its alternating sheets of solid and translucent fabric. From this feature comes its numerous benefits. Like most blinds, Korean blinds are most famous for providing flexible light adjustments and privacy. It has alternating opaque and thin fabric sheets so clients could choose from diffused to fully covered lighting within their rooms. This is very ideal for Filipino families who enjoy each other’s company in their own space. During the day, they could have the front and back layers of the sheer sheets overlap and align so that more natural light could enter. When it gets warmer during noon, the overlapping and aligning of fabric can be done to the solid ones to protect the room from harmful sunrays. The same method can be done at night when the house and its members need privacy and protection.

The Korean blinds are installed for the sala of our Manila client. The blinds are tailored to cover the entire glass area of each of the three windows precisely, extending almost from one side of the frame to the other, minimizing light gaps which is most important in achieving privacy. The blinds are also a light neutral color, off-white, light gray hue. This choice complements the light ceiling and wood flooring. Choosing a neutral color helped keep the room feeling bright and spacious, conducive for holding conversations with family. Meanwhile the horizontal stripes of the Korean blinds fabric add a modern, textural detail, appropriate to the contemporary furniture in the room.
Beyond function and aesthetics, our Manila installation of Korean blinds truly brings comfort and coziness into the family’s sala, allowing for stronger bonds through meaningful conversations in 2026. Who would’ve thought right?
