Accordion Doors in Chapels: Seamless Space, Sacred Atmosphere – Pasay project
In the heart of Pasay, where every inch of an area is valuable as spaces are limited, we’ve proved that efficiency doesn’t have to come at a big cost. Our project for a Pasay client shows that we do not have to compromise religious spaces when it comes to saving spaces. For this blog, we’ll venture into our accordion door installation for a chapel. Let’s dive into how we achieved a seamless space and a sacred atmosphere for our client.

Accordion doors are known for being space savers. It is easy to install and lighter compared to traditional doors but durable enough to divide a space into two or more when needed. Most chapels, especially in highly urbanized areas, face two choices. Either build a large hall that feels cold during daily use, or maintain a small sanctuary that becomes uncomfortably overcrowded during Sunday masses and special feast days. Lucky for devotees, there is a solution for this! By integrating high-quality accordion doors, we bridge this gap and create a space that expands and closes based on the community’s immediate needs.
The success of the Pasay project comes from how easily the accordion doors transform the space. Instead of heavier, permanent walls or doors that block views, we used a partition system that keeps the chapel feeling open, and an adjustable one at that! To make the installation look like an original part of the sanctuary, we matched it to a traditional-looking space with brick walls and dim lights. When open, the faux-wood accordion doors tuck away like hidden pockets, and when closed, they resemble a solid wall that divides the place of prayer into two.

Function is just as important as looks. To keep the chapel quiet and convenient for reflection and prayer despite the noise of Pasay City, we used doors that open and close without much hassle and noise. This soundproofing allows two things to happen at once: a loud choir rehearsal or event preparation activities that can take place in one area while a silent prayer service continues undisturbed in the other. The design also improves the building’s temperature. In the Philippine heat, airflow is essential. Opening the doors allows for better cross-ventilation and helps the air conditioning reach every corner, keeping the room from feeling hot and uncomfortable when there are large crowds.
We are proud to show that this project could be a modern blueprint for city churches. It proves that with smart interior choices, a sacred space can be flexible and adaptable without losing its traditional feel and solemn atmosphere appropriate for praying.
